The Port of Algeciras Handbook enters its 2011 edition as the busiest port in Spain by total tonnage and the leading container facility in the Mediterranean basin. The figures recorded here — 70 million tonnes of cargo throughput, 2.8 million container TEUs, and approximately six million ferry passengers across the Strait of Gibraltar in calendar year 2010 — describe a complex that has, within four decades, transformed from a regional Spanish harbour into a primary transshipment hub for east-west shipping between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.

This Handbook is organised in ten sections.
